World Chess - Bar and Lounge Photography in Berlin

The brief: an invitation to spend the evening

This was a different brief from the World Chess product photography project. Here, the photographs needed to communicate the character of the space and the feeling of being there.

Working with the light already in the space

I chose to work with natural light and the venue's own lighting. That combination gave me the warmth and image quality I was looking for.

The existing light was part of what made the bar and lounge inviting. My decision was to use it as the basis of the photographs, keeping the atmosphere at the centre of the work.

Where the photographs were used

World Chess used the images to introduce the bar and lounge through party flyers, a catalogue and boutique event websites. The photographs connected the physical space with the material people would see when discovering an event or planning an evening out.
