I photographed several events for Exodus Fine Dining, including its Middle Eastern catering. For this work, I decided to follow the kitchen team and photograph from close to the preparation.

Finding a place on the kitchen line
I worked alongside the team on the sous chef's line, almost as another cook. Being there gave me access to viewpoints and angles that came directly from my position inside the kitchen.
After a short introduction to the ingredients and the team, it became easier to connect with what I was photographing. Getting to know both helped me find the photographs and build a story around the food.
Access shaped the photographs
The important decision was to spend time with the people doing the work. My place alongside them shaped what I could see and the angles I could photograph from.
For me, that familiarity made the assignment more personal. The ingredients and the people handling them gave the photographs their starting point.
What made the approach different?
I photographed alongside the kitchen team on the sous chef's line. That access, and a short introduction to the ingredients and people, helped me find distinctive viewpoints and create a connected story.
